About David Gregson
When I began Opera West I don’t know how many years ago, the Internet was in its infancy and the World Wide Web was virtually unknown to anyone without a special interest in it. The opera site was part of a “Classical and Dance Forum” carried by San Diego Magazine.
For many years now, Opera West has been a non-commercial site (despite the dot com designation), and today marks its first launch with upgraded software.
I am retired from writing for other publications. This now my personal “blog,” a word that did not exist when I began. At age 70, I feel free to say what I want and to avoid a formal tone. I hope readers enjoy the site.

Hi David, Thanks for bringing back lovely memories of our Berlin GPT tour 2 weeks back! I totally concur and hope you are well and enjoying operatic life.
cheers, jean
Thanks, Jean. I hope our paths cross again!
Professor Gregson,
I was one of your students at San Diego Mesa. You absolutely hated me. I was 31 playing football and couldn’t write worth a damn. We argued in class and you degraded my work. You were horrified when I showed up for a second semester. I still remember you quoting the first paragraph of, “Paradise Lost”. I actually got a B in that class. You didn’t like my way of thinking but, you admitted my writing improved.
I went on to Chapman University and was given the chance to continue improving. Eventually I taught and coached at the high school that had given up on me and kicked me out.
I’m glad to see you are still doing what you have loved all your life. I’m guessing the retina didn’t fully detach.
Keep up the good work.
David…What a wonderful review of the “Berlin Highlights” as well as reviews of the other operas you have witnessed in the near past. The Berlin tour was much enjoyed by me, and meeting you and chatting each day/evening was an added pleasure. I concur with your reviews of the Berlin experience – very well said I think! I will certainly keep up with your “Blog”. Again, great meeting you and hopefully we will cross paths again along the way. Cheers! Mac Stiles
